Introducing new Assistant Coach Mike Lacy
The Fayette County High School Debate Team is proud to announce we have hired a new assistant coach for the 2009-2010 season. Although we are losing Mr. Tom Swaffer to retirement, we are excited to have Mike Lacy join the team.
Mike Lacy is a 2008 graduate of Chattahoochee High School in Alpharetta, GA. In high school, Mike was one of the most dominant debaters the state has ever seen. His senior year, he only lost a handfull of rounds in the state. He was a member of 2007 and 2008 GHSA State Champions. In addition to his success in state, he reached elimination rounds at almost every tournament in the nation including Greenhill, Michigan, St. Marks, Ohio Valley, Montgomery Bell Academy, Glenbrooks, Emory, Lexington, Westminster, Georgia, Carrollton, Harvard and the Tournament of Champions.
This season he will enter his sophomore year at the University of Georgia. In his first year of colliegate debate he reached elimination rounds at several tournaments including Georgia State, Kentucky JV Nationals, Northwestern, Fullerton, Wake JV Nationals, and West Georgia. Northwestern, Fullerton, and Georgia State are three of the toughest tournaments in the nation. He also qualified for the National Debate Tournament – which is an accomplishment in and of itself.
Mike helped coach Chattahoochee HS and Greenhill HS (TX) this past season at various tournaments. He will be working at the Spartan Debate Institutes this summer. We’re very excited to have him sign on with Fayette County.
