Fayette places 3rd at State!

This past weekend was GHSA State Debate Championships at Whitewater HS. The way the tournament works in GHSA has collapsed all AAAA and AAAAA schools into one division and the top sixteen schools in 4A and 5A attend state. Fayette County had four sophomores (Sonya Jooma, Sonika Reddy, Navroz Tharani and Iesha White) attend and do very well. They tied for 4th overall – and 3r    d in AAAA. They picked up big wins over Northside-Warner Robins, Central Gwinnett, Wheeler and others. They lost a very close round to the state champion Chattahoochee HS – but were deemed, “the best Fayette County team” since the early 2000′s!

Sophomore Navroz Tharani earned 3rd place speaker for the entire tournament – the highest placing for a FCHS non-senior EVER at a State Championship. Navroz is the first speaker to be awarded something since 2003 from Fayette County.

The team is coached by Beverly Kelly, Jeffrey Miller and Tom Swaffer. The team was also assisted by FCHS alum Janelle Rivard during the State Championship weekend.

The team has district qualification tournament this upcoming weekend in order to qualify for National Championship. The team has qualified at least one student for the past ten years.
