Carrollton Results: Two Policy Octofinalists and Top 6 in Extemp!

CARROLLTON, GA:  This past weekend the debate team traveled to the University of West Georgia and Carrollton HS where the team competed against 43 other Georgia schools.  We took 22 students along for the exciting ride!

In Varsity Policy, sophomores Sonya Jooma and Iesha White were named Octofinalists and 15th seed!  This is a great accomplishment to break as sophomores at a TOC bid Tournament.

In Novice Policy, freshmen Alva Powell and Melissa Issa-Boube went 4-1 and were 10th seed!  Melissa’s 10 round winning streak was snapped in the last preliminary round.

In Extemp, freshmen Arif Hosein broke to finals – where he finished 6th place!  This is Arif’s second time being up for the running for an All State bid!

Congratulations to everyone who went!

Northside Results: All State bids galore!

WARNER ROBINS, GA: The team traveled down to Warner Robins to compete for an All State Bid. We took 2 policy teams and 3 people in IE’s.

In Varsity Policy, both teams reached the quarterfinal round. Sonya and Navroz lost a close round against Lincoln County. Sonika and Shaheen lost a close round against Warner Robins. However, due to a tabulation error, both teams were awarded an “All State bid” to rectify a mistake. Depending on future results, a practice round will decide which team represents Fayette in April at the Doubletree.

In Extemp, Iesha and Arif both received All State bids by finishing in the top three. Iesha placed 2nd and Arif placed 3rd.

In Student Congress, Iesha received top speaker and gained a lot of NFL points – receiving 65 for the whole weekend!

Congratulations to all who went!
